Robert Cohen & Roger Vignoles - Cello Sonatas by Grieg and Franck

01. - 03. Edvard Grieg - Cello Sonata in A minor, op.36 [27'47] 04. - 07. Cesar Franck - Cello Sonata in A major (arr. from Violin Sonata [29'07] 08. Antonin Dvorak -  Rondo for Cello and Piano in G minor, op.94* [7'43] Robert Cohen- cello & Roger Vignoles- piano (*Anthya Rael- piano) CRD 3391 (recorded 1980 - issued on LP as CRD 1091 and *CRD 1086/8; this CD release 1991) (flac and scans) Recording venue: Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel, London Recording engineer: Bob Auger; Producer: Simon Lawman These magnificent performances were recorded early in Robert Cohen's career - at the age of 21. He has been one of the UK's foremost cellists ever since. To the best of my knowledge, this was one of the first recordings of the Franck Violin Sonata played on cello. There is no transcription as such, the violin part is played but at an octave lower and the piano part is unchanged. I have loved these performances of the Grieg and Franck sonatas since the LP was first issued; the Dvorak being added for the CD release - extracted from a set of the Dvorak Piano Trios. Bob Auger's recording balance is ideal.
