Beethoven for the Holidays

Folks who enjoy classical music have their great favorites. For me, it is the music of Bach, Brahms, Mahler, Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. No… not necessarily in the order; it depends on my mood… Now there is a new recording of string quartets by Beethoven. He composed string quartets dusting his entire career, and they are considered to be the so-called “early” Quartets, such as the Opus 18, forllowedby the ones from the middle of his career, such as the “Serioso” quartet, and finally the late Quartets from the end of Beethoven’s career. Here are details of this new recording: Beethoven: The Complete String Quartets Volume 3 Recorded live at Wigmore Hall, London, on 9 October 2014 Beethoven: String Quartet No. 3 in D major, Op. 18 No. 3 String Quartet No. 11 in F minor Op. 95 ‘Serioso’ String Quartet No. 13 in B flat major, Op. 130 Performed by the Elias Quartet Over two seasons the Elias String Quartet undertook the huge task of performing the complete Beethoven String Quartets at Wigmore Hall in London. The ensemble’s commitment, meticulous attention to detail and profound love for the music has earned the quartet praise from critics and audiences alike. The Gurdian wrote earlier this month: “I enjoyed the personality and elan tremendously. Given the technical composure and focus of the playing it’s doubly impressive that this was recorded live.” Here are members of the Elias Quartet in the fourth movement from Beethoven’s Quartet Op. 130:
